Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)
VYC has collaborated with the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) to offer Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses in Electrical Installation, Welding, Motor-Vehicle Repairs, Data Operations, and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. This program is scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, spanning a duration of four to six months.
electrical installation
The TVET Level 1 in Electrical Installation is for individuals with developed behavioral competencies but limited decision-making. They perform tasks like communication, adhering to safety requirements, using tools, manual handling, basic repairs, wiring, and machinery connection. This qualification covers services in electrical installation, emphasizing safety and hygiene. Relevant occupations include Electrician Helper and Cable Puller. Holders demonstrate teamwork and literacy skills. Completion of core units is necessary for qualification, with elective units leading to competency statements.
WELDING
The TVET Level 1 in Welding program teaches ARC, TIG, and MIG welding techniques with various materials. Trainees progress at their own pace with a focus on safety and welding skills. Roles may involve oxyfuel cutting, different welding methods, and plasma cutting. Level 1 tasks are simple and collaborative, emphasizing safety and competence. Graduates can work as welders, helpers, or maintenance workers. Certification can be obtained through formal training or on-the-job experience with GNTA assessors.
motor-vehicle repairs
The TVET Level 1 in Motor Vehicle Repairs (Cars and Light Trucks) is for individuals with limited decision-making authority in the automotive sector. They perform tasks like communication, drawing, housekeeping, cylinder head maintenance, and engine servicing. The qualification covers competencies in engine systems, electrical systems, fabrication, and more. Relevant occupations include Assistant Service Technician and Assistant Diagnostic Technician. Certification can be obtained through formal training or on-the-job experience with GNTA assessors.
data operations
The TVET Level 1 in Data Operations is for individuals with developed skills but limited decision-making authority. The qualification focuses on occupational health and safety, IT skills, effective communication, teamwork, client support, and data entry. Holders may work as data entry clerks or office attendants, demonstrating teamwork and literacy skills. Certification can be obtained through formal training or on-the-job experience with GNTA-certified assessors.
Air Conditioning & Refrigeration
The TVET Level 1 in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning includes hands-on projects and covers tasks like using measuring devices, performing mechanical and electrical procedures, and interpreting sketches. Occupations related to this qualification include Maintenance Workers, Refrigeration Mechanics, and Assistant Engineers. Certification can be obtained through formal training or on-the-job experience with certified assessors from the Grenada National Training Agency.
Reduce susceptibility to crime and violence among 80 at-risk youth through basic life skills and employment readiness training from January to December 2018.
Provide competency-based training and certification to 80 at-risk youth in four CFYR communities (East La Penitence, Lodge, East Ruimveldt, and Sophia) using the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) curriculum.
Offer aftercare services to trainees who complete the program, including mentoring, career guidance, and referrals for additional support from other agencies over a six-month period ending in July 2019.
Ensure that at least 50% of youth who finish the TVET program secure jobs in region 4 that match their skills by July 2019.
